Starfish Initiative will hold its 2019 Back-to-School Kick-off on Saturday, August 10, 2019. Starfish is an Indianapolis-based nonprofit organization that focuses on increasing Marion County high school graduation success and college matriculation rates among low-income students through its acclaimed mentorship model.
The 2019 Back-to-School Kick-off will take place on the campus of Arsenal Technical High School. “We have partnered with a number of providers who will offer information and resources to better support our Scholars and allow them begin the school year with fewer encumbrances,” said Amera Schaefer, Sr. Director of Operations for Starfish. Available resources will include employment services, financial literacy, health and wellness and counseling services. The event will also place an emphasis on the importance of the service and civic engagement.
“With great partners like Arsenal Technical High School and Staples, Starfish is positioned to provide the support and resources teens need to excel and accomplish the goals set before them. We know that these academically promising teens have the ability to not only change their own lives but also their communities,” said Gisele Garraway, President and CEO of Starfish Initiative.
The event is open to Starfish Scholars, their families and Starfish Mentors. Check-in will open at 8:30 am.
