Executive Director, Joyce Johnson, has extensive experience in the education arena and in working with
low-income and minority families. Before joining Starfish Initiative, Johnson was Vice-President of the Greater
Educational Opportunities Foundation where she directed a federally funded Parent Information & Resource Center
and the Charter School Services Center. She is the editor of “Key Things Parents Should Know About Education
in Indiana,” published in 2004. A former home schooler, she was founder and Executive Director of the Indiana
Association of Home Educators. Prior to starting her family, Johnson was employed as a social worker.
Mentor Services Director, Bob Goodrum, has been working with families and individuals in low-income situations
for several years and has extensive experience in leadership, ministry, and grant writing. Prior to joining
Starfish, he was the Executive Director for Lighthouse Mission Ministries for nearly nine years and most recently,
the Program Manager for the Chrysalis Academy. Goodrum was designated as “Best and Brightest” by Junior
Achievement in 2004, and named Chairman of the Shelter and Day Services Project Team as part of Blueprint to End
Homelessness. In 2001, he was selected as a Hoosier Champion for the 500 Festival Parade.
Administrative Assistant, Dominique Duncan, is currently in her last semester at the Indiana Business
College where she is studying Administrative Assistance. Duncan is a single mother with two children
putting her way through school. Not only does she have the training necessary for the position, she has
the confidence and organization that makes her a great fit.
Scholar Coordinator, Beverly Roche, received her B.A. in Anthropology from IUPUI in 2007.
Her anthropology research is concentrated in urban anthropology and community activism.
Prior to receiving her degree she was a
professional actress. Roche has worked as a
Teaching Artist with VSA Arts Indiana and with students in the Diagnostic and Abacus programs and
Indianapolis Public Schools.
With a background in theatre, and an interest in human studies,
Roche is able to use her diverse skill set to connect with scholars
and families in the Starfish program. Roche speaks French and hopes to
speak fluent Spanish someday soon.
